Following the 2016 NFL Draft, the Packers - along with the 31 other NFL teams - began to sign undrafted players to free agent contracts and to invite other players to rookie minicamp. On Sunday evening, noted Twitter user and friend of APC @PackerRanter brought an interesting bit of Green Bay Packers news to our attention.
We have been tracking those invites here in our UDFA tracker, but the latest name to be added to the minicamp invite list stands out among the others. Actually, it is the team that he played on last year that is arguably most notable. Wide receiver Patrick Donahue will come to Green Bay for minicamp, as reported by Draft Diamonds.
Donahue played some college football at Southern Oregon University (an NAIA school) in 2011-12, but moved over the Atlantic to play football in Germany. Perhaps you can see where this is going. Yes, in 2015, Donahue was a teammate of APC darling and new Minnesota Vikings draft pick Moritz Boehringer. The two were the top two receivers for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
Donahue is listed at 5'11" 194 pounds (technically 180 cm and 88 kg, but we did the conversion) and therefore is not as imposing a physical specimen as Boehringer. However, he actually exceeded his teammate's impressive receiving production in 2015. In the team's 17 games, Donahue caught 75 passes for 1,353 yards and 17 touchdowns, eclipsing the German's stat line of 59 receptions, 1,232 yards, and 13 scores. Donahue even had a 99-yard touchdown. Donahue also was reported to have a 20-yard shuttle time of under 4 seconds, as shown in this video.
So yeah. Take that, Vikings.
