This offseason, Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy has garnered considerable attention for his efforts to remake his body after his weight appeared to balloon out of control last season. By all accounts, Lacy has trimmed down, though he may still have some pounds to drop. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Lacy has dropped 15 to 18 pounds since last year and currently weighs "in the 240s."
If the 240-pound range seems high after Lacy spent the offseason working out with P90X creator Tony Horton, keep in mind that the running back has likely never played at his official 235-pound weight. Perhaps he and the team aim to see that number drop further. However, so long as Lacy stays around the size he maintained as a rookie and second-year player, he can realistically return to his 1,100-yard form.
Lacy has one year remaining on his contract, a deal he signed as a rookie in 2013. If the running back has a bounce-back performance this season, he could command a considerable salary increase from the Packers or another team next offseason. Over his three seasons in Green Bay, Lacy has accounted for 29 touchdowns and nearly 4,000 yards from scrimmage.
