2016 Packers Roster Predictions: Abbrederis falls just short as Packers keep 6 WR

Though a few of APC’s contributors wanted to keep Abby on the team, overall the decision is that the Packers simply can’t keep seven wideouts in 2016.

Continuing with the predictions of the Packers 53 man roster, we now turn to the Wide Receiver position. While the Packers have a very deep, strong receiving corps, it means most of the top spots are rather secure. The top four wide receivers were fairly unanimous among the staff, but there is talent enough among the remaining receivers to make the decisions difficult.

On The Roster

Starters: Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams

Both Nelson and Cobb are hoping to return to their 2014 production, going three deep in the starting group with Adams getting the repetitions when the Packers go to their three wide receiver sets. The APC writers all agree on these top three receivers. Adams steps in to get his chance to keep improving.

This prediction shows that APC writers believe all three of these receivers are likely to regain form and put up big numbers.

Backups: Jeff Janis, Ty Montgomery, Trevor Davis

Janis punched his ticket to the roster by showing in the playoffs against Arizona that he has the ability to step in when needed. Also, any player that can be the difference between winning and losing just one game in a year has a spot in the roster. All three of these players also have the increased value of being return men.

To be Released

Jared Abbrederis, Herb Waters, Ed Williams, Jamel Johnson, Geronimo Allison

Though Abbrederis was on a couple of individuals’ predictions, his injury history and his drops are likely the reason he gets released. Johnson and Williams had their chance to hang around on the roster last year, but they have not distinguished themselves enough to stay around another year. Allison will likely not be able to get past his slow speed, something Waters possesses. You can bet on one of the young players landing on the practice squad, however.
