Although training camp officially started on Monday, the Green Bay Packers’ season does not really begin until the first weekend of camp, when the team holds its annual Family Night. This year, that event is a week earlier than usual, due to the Packers’ participation in the Hall of Fame Game next weekend.
The event used to be a scrimmage, pitting the Packers’ offense and defensive units together in a largely unscripted competition. However, after injuries struck during the event a few years ago (most notably Bryan Bulaga’s torn ACL), the team has elected to make the event a glorified practice. Still, it is the first chance for fans to see this year’s squad under the lights at Lambeau Field, and the event will feature numerous events and giveaways, including a fireworks display after practice and a raffle to win the players’ jerseys from the evening.
