The Green Bay Packers have announced their inactive players for tonight’s Week 2 macthup with the Minnesota Vikings, and the expected players have showed up on the list. Three players were listed as Doubtful on the team’s Friday injury report and all three will sit for tonight’s game.
That includes one starter: cornerback Sam Shields, who will miss the game due to a concussion suffered late in last week’s win in Jacksonville. This is either the fourth or fifth concussion for the seventh-year corner, whose absence will leave the unit short-handed and down to just three active players. This is because fellow corner Josh Hawkins was ruled out on Friday and will sit as well.
This likely means that veteran defensive back Micah Hyde will see significant snaps at cornerback to help bolster the depth of this unit. Combine Shields’ and Hawkins’ absences with the deactivation of safety Chris Banjo and it means that undrafted rookie safeties Kentrell Brice and Marwin Evans may see some more snaps on defense as well.
The Packers’ inactive list only contains six names this week, because the team’s active roster has just 52 players. Therefore, the team need only deactivate six players to reach the 46-man active gameday roster.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are also missing starters on defense - two of them in fact. Cornerback Xavier Rhodes was ruled out on Friday, as was defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd. Those absences should give the Packers’ offense some better matchups when they have the football.
