Packers-Cowboys Injury Report: Nelson Out, Rollins and Janis Questionable

New, comments

Green Bay will definitely be missing its top wide receiver on Sunday, but one of his possible replacements is still no lock to play.

On Friday afternoon, the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys released their injury reports for Sunday’s Divisional Playoff game between the two teams at AT&T Stadium.

The Packers’ report had some of the expected information on it - namely that Jordy Nelson and James Starks are out. Head coach Mike McCarthy announced earlier on Friday that Nelson would be unable to play, and Starks remains in the concussion protocol following a car accident earlier this season.

Joining them on the inactive list will be offensive lineman JC Tretter, whose knee injury flared up again. Tretter played last week, his first game since injuring his knee in week 8 against Atlanta. However, he did not play in the game, either on offense or on special teams.

Speaking of special teams, the Packers may have their best punt gunner (and a potential fill-in for Nelson) available on Sunday, but that is far from certain at this point. Wide receiver Jeff Janis was unable to practice on Wednesday, but returned in a limited fashion on Thursday. Today, he was ruled as Questionable for the game, along with a pair of other players, Jayrone Elliott and Quinten Rollins.

Rollins is a bit of a surprise, though he has been progressing well through the concussion protocol. He was a limited participant in both practices this week, which is one of the steps of said process, and he could provide a much-needed boost to the cornerback depth if he is able to play.

The Cowboys, on the other hand, appear to be treating the “Questionable” designation much like the old “Probable” tag that existed until this year. They have seven players listed with that designation, most of whom were limited participants throughout the week. However, most are still expected to play on Sunday afternoon.

Here are the complete injury reports for both teams, which will be subject to change following the Packers’ walkthrough practice on Saturday.
