Packers Injury Report: RB Christine Michael now Questionable for NFC Championship Game

The Packers added another player to the injury report after Saturday’s practice, because you apparently can’t have enough injured guys on offense.

It wouldn’t be a Saturday practice for the Green Bay Packers without adding another player to the injury report. This afternoon, the Packers have added running back Christine Michael to the report, listing him as Questionable with a back injury.

Presumably, this injury occurred or flared up during Saturday’s practice, as there was no mention of him on the report earlier in the week. In fact, the only two times since week 12 that he has appeared on the report at all were in Week 15, when he missed a practice with an illness, and Week 17, when he missed a practice for a non-injury related issue.

The Packers will likely go into the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday planning to have Ty Montgomery play heavily at the running back position, but Michael could be in a position to take a larger-than-usual workload. That is because the Packers’ wide receiver group is banged up and has a few players who will be game-time decisions on Sunday. That could lead to Montgomery filling in at receiver for portions of the game, which would result in more work for Aaron Ripkowski or Michael at the tailback spot.

However, Michael’s injury could derail that game plan if he is unable to play or is limited on Sunday.

Ultimately, this could be just a precaution, but pay attention to the gameday inactives report when it is released about 90 minutes prior to game time tomorrow.
