On Tuesday, two days after their season concluded with a thud in Atlanta, the Green Bay Packers have made their first roster transactions of the offseason.
The team announced today that they have signed eight of the players who finished the season on the practice squad to futures contracts, keeping them on the 90-man roster through the offseason. The players signed are listed below:
- C Jacob Flores
- OLB Reggie Gilbert
- WR Antwan Goodley
- ILB Derrick Mathews
- G Lucas Patrick
- DT Brian Price
- TE Beau Sandland
- S Jermaine Whitehead
The team added cornerback Bene Benwikere to the practice squad during the playoffs, but he was not among those players signed. Also notable by his absence is tight end Devon Cajuste, who was placed on the practice squad/injured list late in the regular season.
Each of these players was either a rookie or designated as being in his first NFL season in 2016. The contracts of these players will count as the league minimum over the offseason when factored in against the salary cap. Of this group, only Price and Whitehead spent any time on the active 53-man roster during the regular season
Green Bay’s roster now sits at 61 players on the active roster, with seven additional players on injured reserve. That number will reduce on March 9th, when the 2017 league year begins and players with expiring contracts become free agents.
