As the cornerbacks in the Green Bay Packers' secondary began dropping like flies during the second half of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, it would have been understandable for the unit to crumble entirely. And the Packers' pass coverage did struggle at times, allowing Matthew Stafford to throw for nearly 350 yards and a pair of scores.
However, when the team needed a huge play, they got it from a player who was in a position he had not played in a long time. Micah Hyde's interception in the end zone killed a Lions drive in the red zone and preserved a two-touchdown lead, and it should go down as one of the more impressive and unlikely plays of the season.
All told, the Packers' secondary will be a unit to monitor this week, as they approach a playoff matchup against a talented Giants receiving corps at less than full strength. Which DBs end up being healthy could be a determining factor in that game; however, keep in mind that they limited Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, and Sterling Shepard to a combined seven catches for 70 yards in the teams' first meeting this year, and they did so without Sam Shields or Damarious Randall.
