On Saturday evening, the NFC’s third seed — the Seattle Seahawks — defeated the 6th-seeded Detroit Lions in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. In doing so, they locked in the matchups for the NFC in the Divisional Round, even though the second game of the weekend has yet to be played.
Because the Seahawks are the 3 seed, they will play the second-seeded Atlanta Falcons next Saturday. That leaves the top-seeded Dallas Cowboys to await the winner of Sunday’s Green Bay Packers-New York Giants game.
Although the Packers and Giants may face a tougher game in theory by playing the conference’s best regular season team, the scheduling may work out in their favor. Had the Lions won, they would be going to Dallas next Sunday, leaving the Packers-Giants winner headed to Atlanta on a short week.
Green Bay and New York will kick off on Sunday at 3:40 PM Central time to decide who will face Dallas in one week’s time.
