The Green Bay Packers got some great news for the health of their defense on Wednesday, as the team took the field for its first practice of week seven. The New Orleans Saints are on deck this Sunday afternoon, and the Packers will need all available players to slow down Drew Brees and Sean Payton’s offense.
Green Bay appears to be in line to get back a pair of starting cornerbacks on Sunday, as both Kevin King and Davon House were participating in the portion of practice open to the media. King sat out last week’s game in Minnesota after suffering a concussion, but Packersnews.com’s Ryan Wood confirms that he has passed the concussion protocol and should be ready to play Sunday. House, meanwhile, missed last week’s game as well due to a quad injury, but his return to practice is a great sign for a team that was down to just three healthy cornerbacks without him.
Also joining them on the practice field was rookie outside linebacker Vince Biegel. The fourth-round draft pick out of the University of Wisconsin was working in drills for the first time since the team’s rookie orientation in May. Biegel missed all of the team’s offseason workouts after having foot surgery, then was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of training camp. He remained on the PUP to start the regular season, a decision which required him to sit out the first six weeks of the season.
With Biegel now practicing, the Packers begin a clock on a three-week countdown in which they must remove him from the PUP list, presumably by adding him to the 53-man active roster. Since the team has a bye following the game with the Saints this Sunday, the most likely scenario is that Biegel is activated following the bye and before the Packers’ week nine matchup with the Detroit Lions.
