Don’t tell the Green Bay Packers’ and Detroit Lions’ players that they have nothing to play for on Sunday.
With the two teams being eliminated from the playoffs, both NFC North rivals will end their season in week seventeen, playing for pride (and perhaps a bit of revenge). The Packers will look to avenge their loss at home in week nine, while the Lions look to get some measure of payback for the game last season in week 17, when the Packers beat the Lions to lock up the NFC North title.
This year, however, with both teams eliminated, it will make sense for them to throw some young players into the fray to allow them to put some snaps on tape and audition for the 2018 squad. The Packers may be forced to do so regardless, due to a glut of injured veterans, while the Lions have fewer injury concerns on the active roster this week.
Adding insult to injury is the fact that the game is on locally for only a small portion of the United States - essentially just Wisconsin and Michigan.
