Packers at the Scouting Combine: Recent DL picks displayed great measureables

Green Bay picked two defensive linemen in last year’s draft, and both were terrific athletes for their sizes.

NFL: Combine Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

We continue on with our examination of the results from Green Bay Packers players’ workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine through the years, and now we shift our eyes to the defensive side of the football. First up, we look at the defensive linemen, a group that occupies just six slots on the current roster.

Two of those individuals were drafted in 2016, however, giving us a bit of a look into what general manager Ted Thompson likes to look for. As with the other positions on the team, it appears that Thompson prioritizes speed and quickness, and although the numbers might not jump off the page in some cases, remember that we have to adjust for the players’ sizes at these positions.

Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry were indeed impressive athletes at 314 and 296 pounds, respectively. Lowry in particular impressed in agility drills, while Clark ran well for a big man.

Keep numbers like these in mind when examining this year’s linemen performances; odds are that if the Packers go for help on the defensive line again, they’ll look for a player with similar numbers.
