It didn’t take long for the Green Bay Packers to make a decision on their backup running back after bringing him in for a visit. Just a few short hours after ESPN’s Field Yates reported that Christine Michael was in Green Bay for a free agent visit, Yates is reporting that Michael has re-signed with the Packers.
Michael will presumably come into training camp as the intended backup to Ty Montgomery at the tailback position.
No details of the contract are known as yet, but it is likely that the deal is for near the league minimum and with little guaranteed money.
The Packers claimed Michael on waivers from the Seattle Seahawks in November 2016, and he played in nine games with Green Bay (including playoffs). The Seahawks drafted Michael in 2013 with the 62nd overall pick, one slot after the Packers picked Eddie Lacy. He later spent time with Dallas and Washington before landing back in Seattle towards the end of the 2015 season.
The Packers now have three running backs on the roster: Montgomery, Michael, and Don Jackson, who signed an exclusive-rights free agent tender.
Stay tuned for more details on Michael’s contract in the coming days.
