Rest easy Green Bay Packers fans, because according to a report by NFL Network's Ian Rapaport, Adrian Peterson will not be coming to Green Bay.
Rapoport cited sources saying that Peterson is closing in on a contract with the New Orleans Saints that would be worth approximately $3 million for the upcoming 2017 season. He adds that while the deal is not done, it is "moving in that direction."
Many around Packer Nation will be breathing a sigh of relief at this news, as many fans expressed concerns about Peterson and all his baggage coming to Green Bay to fill the team's need at running back.
As a result of the imminent signing, Peterson will likely still be coming to Lambeau Field in 2017, just as a member of the Saints in October instead.
As for New Orleans, a Drew Brees/Peterson pairing would have been a lethal combination a few years ago but thanks to Peterson's multiple knee injuries and his suspension, no one is really sure how this pairing will play out. This could catapult the Saints' offense to new heights or it could weigh them down. It all depends on how healthy Peterson is and how much he has left in his 32 year old body.
