Packers sign RB Will Stanback after rookie tryout, reports Will Stanback

Green Bay is back up to five running backs on the roster with this move.

We now have the Green Bay Packers’ roster up to 89 players.

Shortly after learning that the Packers have signed edge rusher Josh Letuligasenoa to a rookie free agent contract after the team’s rookie orientation minicamp, we have a report of another player earning a contract as a result of trying out at camp.

That player is running back Will Stanback, who tweeted a photo of him signing his contract on Monday:

Congratulations to Will, who finished his college career at Virginia Union University after starting at the University of Central Florida. Stanback was dismissed from UCF in 2015 after failing multiple drug tests, but he appears to have cleaned up his act since then. That might explain the caption in the tweet above.

The Packers may have found a diamond in the rough in Stanback, who ran for over 1,300 yards as a senior. Participating in Pro Day at William & Mary, the 6-foot, 233-pound back ran a 4.55 40-yard dash with a 6.90 cone time (per NFLdraftscout.com) and he ran an even better 4.48 40 at an NFL Regional Combine near Washington, DC.

Stanback has found himself on the highlight reel in the past, as well, once making the SportsCenter Top 10 for this play while still at UCF:

Stanback’s size, power, and receiving ability are all on display here. Look for him to earn plenty of opportunities with the Packers during OTAs and minicamp while working behind starter Ty Montgomery and the three draftees, Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, and Devante Mays.
