After he suffered a sprained ankle midway through training camp, Green Bay Packers right tackle had set his sights on returning to game action in time for the team’s week one matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
That contest takes place this afternoon, and although Bulaga practiced on a limited basis throughout the week, the Packers have elected to shut him down for the game today. In doing so, the Packers will need to start one of their second-year tackles in his place, as Kyle Murphy will get the start.
That will be a challenge for Murphy, as he and the Packers’ offensive line as a whole face one of the most talented groups of defensive linemen in the NFL. Murphy will likely see a heavy dose of Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, a tall task for any tackle but an especially hard assignment for a player making his first NFL start.
The Packers also ruled out rookie defensive tackle Montravius Adams on Friday, and he is joined by a host of rookies and depth players as the team’s roster is largely healthy for the first game of the regular season.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks had a couple of injuries pop up in Friday’s practice, landing a handful of defensive starters on the injury report. Cornerback Richard Sherman and defensive tackle Jarran Reed both sat out Friday’s practice with thigh and shoulder injuries, respectively, but the two are active for today’s game.
Here are the full list of inactive players for both teams.
