Cheese Curds, 9/11: Numbers don’t quite do justice to Packers’ performance in week 1 win

It was tough sledding early for the Packers’ offense, but

One of the big storylines early in Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks was field position. The Packers started inside their own 20-yard line on each of their first four drives, with two of them coming inside the five. That ended up making the progress down the field much more difficult; with better starting position, a few of those drives might have ended in field goals instead of punts, and the Packers might have felt more comfortable at halftime.

Of course, the Packers got magnificent field position early in the second half following a sack-strip by Mike Daniels, which kick-started the offense and got the Packers on the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, Ty Montgomery’s rushing was kept to a minimum early, as he was forced into a handful of ugly runs from deep in Packers territory in the first quarter. However, he did have a few notable plays after halftime, and he ended up being a major contributor in the win.

Here’s a look at a few notable items from the first weekend of the season.
