Last spring, the Green Bay Packers drafted a Wisconsin native and former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker on day three of the 2017 NFL Draft.
History could repeat itself in 2018.
The Packers are reportedly hosting inside linebacker Jack Cichy on a formal pre-draft visit next week, according to Tom Silverstein. Cichy, who missed all of 2017 with a torn ACL that he suffered early in summer camp, was a dynamic playmaker for the Badgers during his sophomore and junior seasons. He attended the 2018 NFL Combine, participating in medical checks, interviews, and the bench press, before doing some on-field work at the Badgers’ Pro Day on March 14th.
There, Cichy wowed scouts and fans alike by posting agility numbers that would have been among the best times for linebackers in Indianapolis, all while being just seven months removed from his torn ACL. At 6-foot-2 and 238 pounds, Cichy ran the 3-cone drill in 6.88 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.19 seconds, both of which are well in line with the Packers’ recent trends for off-ball linebackers.
Cichy exploded onto the college football scene during the 2015 Holiday Bowl, when he recorded back-to-back-to-back sacks on USC quarterback Cody Kessler. He was a starter for the Badgers for the first half of the season in 2016 before suffering a torn pectoral muscle at Iowa. It stands to reason that given two straight season-ending injuries, examinations by the Packers’ medical staff will take up a significant portion of Cichy’s visit.
Check out video here of Cichy’s comments from the 2018 NFL Combine, along with a few comments by teammates and fellow linebackers Leon Jacobs and Garret Dooley.
