Ty Montgomery has made poor decisions on kickoff returns before

Ty tried to take out a kick once at Stanford, and they had an interesting way of stopping him.

Green Bay Packers running back/return man Ty Montgomery is getting justifiably (albeit excessively) pilloried over his decision to return a kickoff instead of taking a knee in the end zone in the waning moments of the Packers’ latest loss. Montgomery’s decision would have been awful even if it had gone exactly according to plan, as it would have wasted the 2-minute warning, but his fumble was the gross, stinky icing on the garbage cake.

As it turns out, this isn’t Ty’s first time making poor return decisions, and thanks to Reddit user /u/tymontgomerydagoat, we have this amazing video of, well, take a look.

It’s clear that if the Packers plan to keep Montgomery in this role, they’re going to need Oren Burks or Josh Jones back there as well, just to lay down the law. One might think that getting leveled by your teammate would leave a lasting impression about the proper way to handle kickoffs, but here we are.

Maybe Ty’s not the best choice back there at this point, even if he remains on the team.
