Packers fans still consider Bears their biggest rival, edging out Vikings

So says our FanPulse survey, but give us your opinion on whether that group got it wrong.

As part of SB Nation’s Rivalry Week, we at Acme Packing Company asked our readers through the FanPulse survey platform about which team is the Green Bay Packers’ top rival. The results, while not surprising, are interesting nonetheless.

As one might expect, the Chicago Bears earned the top spot on our poll, narrowly edging out the Minnesota Vikings and taking a slight majority of the overall votes. 51 percent of respondents named the Bears as number one on the list, with 44 percent voting for Minnesota.

One other team earned votes, and it was not the other NFC North team (apologies to the Detroit Lions). Instead, it was the Seattle Seahawks, who drew five percent of the votes. Here’s a look at the numbers:

It should hardly be a surprise that the Bears occupy the top spot, especially given their sudden resurgence in 2018. Chicago holds a 7-3 record this year and is in sole possession of first place in the NFC North, while the Packers and Vikings are scuffling around the .500 mark at 4-5-1 and 5-4-1, respectively.

Of course, there’s the history aspect to keep in mind as well. The Packers hold a three-game lead in the all-time head-to-head series against the Bears, which has the most games played of any rivalry in the NFL. Green Bay is 97-94-6 all-time in their 197 games against Chicago (playoffs included), while they hold a 60-53-3 record against the Vikings all-time.

(Incidentally, the Packers’ most all-time wins against one team comes against Detroit, leading that series 100-71-7.)

Yes, the Seattle rivalry continues to grow as the teams trade blows and cannot seem to win in the other’s stadium, but there’s no substitute for longevity, history, and begrudging respect when it comes to a rivalry. For those reasons, the Bears take the top mark. The two teams will renew their rivalry one more time in 2018, playing for the 198th time on Sunday, December 16th at Soldier Field.
