Packers safety Kentrell Brice leaves Vikings game with ankle injury

The Packers’ secondary grows perilously thin with yet another injury in the back end.

With the Green Bay Packers’ secondary already down starters Kevin King and Bashaud Breeland, Kentrell Brice’s return to the lineup freed Mike Pettine up to move Tramon Williams back to cornerback. That freedom didn’t even last a quarter.

On a Dalvin Cook screen-pass touchdown, Brice not only whiffed on his tackle attempt, he tweaked his left ankle and had to leave Sunday night’s critical NFC North matchup. He was officially listed as questionable to return by the team with that injury.

Brice hadn’t played since leaving the Miami Dolphins game with a bone bruise in his ankle. The Ha Ha Clinton-Dix trade opened up playing time for Josh Jones and Brice, but Brice hasn’t been able to stay healthy or offer any kind of consistent play. Raven Greene showed some flashes in his brief playing time, but Greene also wound up on the injury report this week and is inactive on Sunday night.

It’s fair to wonder even with the drop off from Williams to Tony Brown at cornerback, it’s worth the trade just to get Williams on the field and Brice off it. It was Brice who gave up the game-tying touchdown in the first meeting between these two teams.
