It feels like a while since Alabama-LSU has been...well...Alabama-LSU. Although each of the last 12 meetings have come with both programs in the Top 25, the two programs have not met with both in the top five since the 2012 season.
That changes today, as #1 Alabama travels to Baton Rouge to play #3 LSU. Ed Orgeron has the Tigers overachieving this year, as LSU was not expected to be a significant contender. Instead, they sit at 7-1 as the highest-ranke one-loss team in the country. It helps that their one loss came to a ranked team — the Florida Gators — and they followed that loss up with a convincing win over then-number two Georgia. That was their third win over a team ranked in the top ten going into the game, and it vaulted them right back up into the top five.
Both teams feature loads of NFL talent, as always. There could be as many as eight first-round draft picks on the two squads for next year’s draft alone, plus any number of highly-rated underclassmen who won’t yet be eligible for the draft in 2019. So if there’s one game worth tuning in for today, make it that one tonight.
