On Sunday, the Green Bay Packers face off against their arch rivals, the Chicago Bears. Robert of Windy City Gridiron was kind enough to answer some questions about the Bears and provide some insight into their strengths and weaknesses.
APC: Finally, it’s prediction time. Which team wins on Sunday and why?
I’m wary of picking the Bears by any comfortable margin by a team that’s owned them so much over the years. Even when they’ve been in comfortable positions before, Chicago has failed miserably in the past against the Packers. You can’t ignore a 16-2 record by Aaron Rodgers against them, and I do think there is a mental block with that much sustained losing against one team. Players and coaches alike convince themselves of a curse that doesn’t exist, and that permeates in their play.
But the Bears are definitively the better team from top to bottom this time around, and have the motivating revenge factor from Week 1. A new coach like Nagy new to this rivalry won’t let the Bears dwell on the past. Any defensive struggles they have had this year, have mostly come on the road. The Bears are also a far better team than the one that held a 20-point lead in Lambeau Field back in September. Meanwhile, the Packers have quite obviously regressed.
Factor in the note that the Bears can clinch the NFC North with a victory on Sunday, and I think they come out and exorcise long-established demons.
Bears 31, Packers 16
