With the Green Bay Packers officially eliminated from playoff contention, the offseason starts now despite two games remaining on the schedule.
Priority one for the Packers will be finding a new head coach. The widely held assumption is that the team is in the market for an offensive-minded head coach to help Aaron Rodgers and company get out of the doldrums.
If this is indeed the path Green Bay goes down, the next coach should almost immediately offer to retain defensive coordinator Mike Pettine.
Despite suffering a ton of injuries including the two best defensive lineman in Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark, Pettine’s unit has remained respectable despite the team’s poor record. The fact Pettine has kept the defense playing well despite all the adversity speaks volumes about his coaching acumen and how much players enjoy playing for him.
Could you see the same situation unfolding under Dom Capers’ leadership? Highly doubtful.
There’s more on why keeping Pettine would be the smart move plus a Packers legend visits with two current stars of his alma mater in today’s cheese curds.
