The Green Bay Packers will have to go another year to see a player challenge a pair of the team’s single-season records. Davante Adams was listed on the team’s inactive players list on Sunday for the week 17 game against the Detroit Lions due to a knee injury that he suffered last week against the New York Jets.
Adams will finish this season with 111 receptions for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns. That line puts him one catch short of Sterling Sharpe’s receptions record of 112 and 133 yards shy of Jordy Nelson’s receiving yards record, set with 1,519 yards in 2014.
Joining Adams on the inactives list are cornerback Jaire Alexander and fellow wideout Equanimeous St. Brown. Both suffered injuries of their on last Sunday, with Alexander injuring his groin and St. Brown landing in the concussion protocol after taking a big hit. Neither player practiced at all this week, nor did Adams. One other injured player who is out is tackle Jason Spriggs, also in the concussion protocol.
The team has three healthy scratches today: quarterback Tim Boyle, guard Nico Siragusa, and edge rusher Kendall Donnerson. For a team desperate for help on the edge going into 2019, the decision not to play Donnerson can only be explained by a lack of success in practice. If he had showed any semblance of ability to grasp the defense or make a few plays rushing the passer, keeping a player with his athletic ability out for this meaningless game — in which we expect to see reserves play significantly — would be inexcusable.
The Lions, meanwhile, are also missing their top receiver, as wideout Kenny Golladay sits. Two key defensive backs also will sit: Nevin Lawson and Jamal Agnew, the latter of which serves a key role on special teams.
Here are the full lists for both teams.
