As fans of the Green Bay Packers have come to expect over the second half of the 2018 season, the team has several starters on the injury report this week as they begin preparations for their week 14 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Four starters and another key player or two sat out entirely as the team practiced on Wednesday.
Two of those starters are the offensive linemen who were injured in last week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Right tackle Bryan Bulaga and right guard Byron Bell both left in the first half of the game with injuries, and both were held out of practice on Wednesday. They were joined by cornerback Kevin King and tight end Jimmy Graham, both starters, as well as safety Raven Greene and reserve running back Tra Carson.
Graham is likely to play on Sunday at Lambeau Field, since he has skipped most Wednesday practices this season with various issues but has not missed a game. The linemen are a bigger concern, however, particularly Bulaga due to the expected dropoff from him to Jason Spriggs at the tackle spot. Despite a struggling defense overall, Atlanta does have a pair of young defensive ends with good pass-rushing ability, which will likely test Spriggs on Sunday should he start the game.
The ongoing absence for Kevin King remains frustrating, however. He practiced on a limited basis on Thursday last week, but was unable to play on Sunday and is now missing time once again. Thankfully, cornerback Bashaud Breeland and safety Kentrell Brice both were participating, which would be a relief for a Packers squad that continues to deal with more and more injuries in the defensive backfield.
One other notable injury took place during practice on Wednesday. That was to rookie long snapper Hunter Bradley, who was spotted by media members on the turf in significant pain late in the session. He reportedly said after practice that the injury was not serious, as was the indication from his “full participation” status. Still, stay tuned this week to find out whether the Packers may need to make a move to find someone to fill in for him over the final four games.
