Not a serious issue. That’s how Green Bay Packers long snapper Hunter Bradley described an injury that he suffered in practice on Wednesday, according to beat writer Tom Silverstein.
Despite that assessment, Bradley — a seventh-round draft pick in 2018 — missed practice entirely on Thursday, which is typically the team’s heaviest workload of the week. The Packers play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field, and Bradley will have just one more chance to practice this week on Saturday. With his status now officially in question for this weekend, the Packers probably need to prepare for an emergency situation.
After having just two long snappers in seventeen seasons from 1998 to 2014, the Packers have gone through quite a series of players at that position over the past two years. Despite suffering a torn ACL late in the 2015 season, Brett Goode had manned the spot going back to 2008 and he returned to play every game in 2016. However, the team moved ahead with a pair of young players in the 2017 offseason, as Derek Hart and Taybor Pepper each received chances to win the job. Instead, Goode came back in training camp to take his old job back, but was injured after a few games and received an injury settlement. The Packers then signed Pepper for a few games, but he broke his foot, leading to Goode’s return for the remainder of the year.
This season, Goode was allowed to walk yet again, and Bradley won a competition in camp against Zach Triner. Now, with Bradley’s status up in the air and Goode a free agent, it’s possible that the team could give him a call once again for the final four games of the season.
Aside from the Packers placing Tra Carson and Kevin King on injured reserve, there was only one change in injury status from Wednesday to Thursday. That related to tight end Jimmy Graham, who was upgraded to limited from a non-participant after receiving a typical Wednesday off.
