On Wednesday afternoon, the NFL announced the preseason schedule for all 32 teams across the league, Although we already knew about the teams participating in the Hall of Fame Game this year (the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears), we had not yet learned about the Green Bay Packers’ exhibition matchups.
Now we know, and the games are as follows:
Preseason Week 1: vs. Tennessee Titans, Lambeau Field; date/time TBD
Preseason Week 2: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Lambeau Field; date/time TBD
Preseason Week 3: at Oakland Raiders, Oakland Coliseum; date/time TBD
Preseason Week 4: at Kansas City Chiefs, Arrowhead Stadium; date/time TBD
Exact dates and times for each game will be announced in a few weeks.
The big standout game here among the four AFC opponents is the game against the Oakland Raiders. There are several players on the Raiders’ roster who have Packers connections, but the most notable is of course wide receiver Jordy Nelson. The Packers released Nelson earlier this offseason and he landed a two-year deal from former Packers executive Reggie McKenzie, now the general manager of the Raiders. Other players who spent some time in Green Bay include kicker Giorgio Tavecchio and tight end Jared Cook, while receivers coach Edgar Bennett was fired by the Packers this offseason.
The Packers also close the preseason with a date against the Kansas City Chiefs. The two teams often wrap up the exhibition slate against each other, though they took a one-year hiatus for 2017.
