One of the highlights of owning a share of the Green Bay Packers is the annual Shareholder’s Meeting, typically held just before the start of training camp each year. On Thursday morning, the Packers announced that they have finalized the date for the 2018 edition of the meeting for Wednesday, July 25th. This year’s event will be held in the evening, however, starting at 7:00 PM local time instead of taking place during the day like in years past.
Each year, Packers owners pack Lambeau Field to hear presentations from the team’s top brass, including team president Mark Murphy and the general manager and head coach. This year will be the first meeting where Brian Gutekunst will speak as GM following his hiring as Ted Thompson’s replacement this January.
The Packers typically begin training camp within a few days of the Shareholder’s Meeting, so it is reasonable to expect the team to set the players’ report date for Thursday or Friday of that week. In 2017, for example, the meeting was on July 24th, followed two days later by players reporting on the 26th and practice starting up on the 27th.
One other notable item, however, is that the Packers will be holding a special set of events for fans and shareholders this year in order to celebrate the 100th season of Packers football, which of course began in 1919. The team has advised fans to wait to make travel plans until full details of these events are released.
Packers shareholders should keep an eye out for tickets for the meeting and RSVPs coming via email or conventional mail in the coming weeks.
