A thread has been going around NFL Twitter over the past few days (started, as far as we can tell, by our friends at Niners Nation) and we at Acme Packing Company think this is a perfect discussion point for a Friday lunch break as we approach the weekend.
In short, we want to know who your favorite Green Bay Packers are at each position. You have to pick just a single name for each position group, so no waffling is allowed. This will get tough when all offensive linemen are lumped together, but we have faith in you to settle on a single player.
Without further ado, here are the categories for you to evaluate:
- QB
- RB
- WR
- TE
- OL
- DL
- LB
- DB
- ST
I’ll give you mine to get us started off, and I’m going to limit my list to players whom I actually watched. At quarterback, I’m going with Aaron Rodgers — that probably should come as no surprise. I’m going off the board a little bit at running back and picking fullback William Henderson; I always loved the fact that he was a great check-down receiver as well as a blocker, and he was a fantastic member of the community and the organization. At wide receiver, give me Donald Driver. I hope I don’t need to explain that too much. Tight end is a tough one, but I’ll go with Keith Jackson, even though he wasn’t a Packer for very long. Offensive line is also a really difficult call, with so many players to choose from, but my Wisconsin ties win out and so Mark Tauscher is my pick (with David Bakhtiari a close second).
On the defensive line, I expect that Gilbert Brown might get a few votes, but I have to stick with Reggie White. Linebacker gives me another tough decision, but after some thought I keep coming back to Brian Williams — he played with a remarkable edge and attitude and his career was cut short too soon. At defensive back, I have an easy call, however: it’s LeRoy Butler, and it still pains me that he does not get more love for the Hall of Fame. Finally regarding special teams, I can find a spot for Don Beebe, who was the team’s kickoff returner over the first half of the 1996 season before making way for Desmond Howard.
Let’s see your list of favorite Packers, whether all-time favorites or just the players that you have watched in your lifetime. Drop them in the comments or hit us up on Twitter/Facebook.
