Cheese Curds 8/1: Mike Pettine’s defense producing early for Packers

Mike Pettine is showing his positive press from the offseason wasn’t a fluke.

After years of Dom Capers, Mike Pettine was bound to have an outsized portion of goodwill flowing his way from Packers fans hoping for stronger performances on defense. For most of the offseason, Pettine got the benefit of the doubt on everything he said in large part just because he wasn’t Capers.

But now that training camp is nearly a week old, Pettine’s positive press is proving to be justified.

Sure, there’s very little by which we can actually evaluate Pettine’s defense, but everything out of training camp so far indicates a very different feel to this year’s defensive unit.

With this year’s first preseason game just over a week away, let’s hope that feeling translates into something significant.
