Apparently Tuesday was interview day in Green Bay, as a number of individuals on the Packers’ coaching staff and the front office spoke with the media or had conversations published. First up, we learned a bit from head coach Mike McCarthy about his plans for the final preseason game — which involve a lot of quarterback Tim Boyle — before the team’s coordinators took the podium to answer some questions about the roster and their players in advance of final cuts.
However, the big story out of Lambeau Field this morning is a lengthy interview with general manager Brian Gutekunst. The first-year GM has been holding press conferences at least weekly throughout training camp, a welcome change from his predecessor, and he is clearly more comfortable at the microphone than Ted Thompson ever was.
Now we see a little more from Gutekunst, as the intimate Q&A reveals some of his thought processes. How much does he consult with Thompson? What’s the timetable on an Aaron Rodgers contract extension? Is it worth giving up a bunch of draft picks to acquire a player like Khalil Mack? Gutekunst answered all of these questions — at least somewhat — in the excellent interview that you can find in today’s curds.

Speaking of the coordinators, the argument here is that having two former head coaches on staff will help McCarthy, who has been challenging those two about decisions related to scheduling, in-game issues, and more.
