It’s almost decision time for front offices around the NFL. 32 NFL teams will cut their rosters down from 90 players to 53 in less than 48 hours, and tonight they have their final opportunity to see those players in action. Bubble players have their final auditions, and tape goes out for everyone to see in case an intriguing player is cut loose this weekend.
The Green Bay Packers meet a familiar foe for the final preseason game tonight. Tonight’s game marks the seventh time in the last nine years that they play the Kansas City Chiefs in the final exhibition game of the year. Kansas City has a new quarterback this season, however, after they traded Alex Smith to Washington to make room for second-year QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is not expected to play tonight, however, so we’ll have to entertain ourselves with the Packers’ quarterbacks instead.
On that note, the position has suddenly come into even sharper focus for the Packers this week. Brett Hundley is out, traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a 6th-round draft pick. That leaves DeShone Kizer as the backup and Tim “Golden” Boyle to see plenty of opportunities in the second half to show whether he deserves a spot on the 53-man roster. Plus, Aaron Rodgers signed the biggest contract in NFL history on Wednesday, and although he won’t play tonight either, expect to hear a great deal about that great deal.
Tune in for kickoff at 7:30 Central Time and enjoy the game!
