Packers’ Final* 2018 53-man Roster: Receivers and tight ends galore

The final 53 has plenty of surprises, and a plethora of passing game options for Aaron Rodgers.

The Packer roster is finally set to kick off the 2018 season, and there were plenty of surprises among the final cuts.

On offense, the Great Whitewater Hope Jake Kumerow will stick around as the Packers decided to keep a ton of skill position players, including three quarterbacks. Tim Boyle also sticks despite his lackluster effort in the final preseason game. It was a bit of a surprise to see Aaron Ripkowski go, but in the modern NFL an extra tight end like the impressive Robert Tonyan is far more important. The Packers will enter the season very light at running back, with only Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery on the current roster with Aaron Jones suspended. All three rookie receivers (J’mon Moore, Equanimeous St. Brown, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling) made the team, as did offensive lineman Alex Light in maybe the biggest surprise of the day.

On defense, former Badger Vince Biegel was released, leaving the team dangerously thin at outside linebacker. Biegel will always be remembered by a set of Packer fans as “the guy taken instead of TJ Watt,” and he never really managed to make an impact in his short, injury-plagued stint. Many thought Demetri Goodson would make it as the team seemed to stick with him through thick and thin, but not this time. Greer Martini had a nice preseason, and Ahmad Thomas was playing with the second team for most of the preseason, but neither made the cut. It’s surprising to see both go given how thin they are at linebacker, but James Crawford and Antonio Morrison played well enough on special teams to stick around. I’m personally always surprised when Davon House makes a team, but here we are. Herb Waters will round out the secondary.

There were no big surprises on special teams as rookie JK Scott cemented his place in the hearts of all Packer fans by booming punts and flipping field position. Hunter Bradley managed to win the long snapper spot.

And there you have it. Here are your 2018 Packers, at least until waiver claims are processed.
