With the calendar now squarely in October, rivalry games are starting to appear on the college football schedule. One of the best takes place this Saturday, as Oklahoma and Texas meet on neutral ground to stake their claims to top-ten spots in the rankings. Oklahoma has not yet been significantly tested, while Texas lost a close game to LSU in one of the year’s first premier matchups.
Last year, the two teams met twice in the greater Dallas area — once in the regular season at the Cotton Bowl and once in the Big XII Championship Game at AT&T Stadium. Texas won the first meeting, but Oklahoma got them in the second en route to the fourth and final spot in the College Football Playoff.
Several hours after that game, LSU will be among the featured teams, as they host the Florida Gators for a top-ten matchup. With both teams looking up at top-five teams in their respective divisions — LSU ranking fifth behind top-ranked Alabama in the SEC West and Florida sitting at no. 7 and four spots behind third-place Georgia — this will be a huge game for SEC standings. Still, the loser could still earn a division title by winning out and beating the divisional rival ahead of them.
It should be a fun day ahead, and that doesn’t even mention some interesting Big Ten games, with Wisconsin hosting Michigan State and Penn State facing Iowa in the evening. Strap in for a fun day of college football!
