The Green Bay Packers’ offense got some great news on Sunday morning as the team prepares to head out to the turf at Lambeau Field. With a game against the Oakland Raiders looming in about 90 minutes, the team will have a nearly-full complement of wide receivers for the contest.
Second-year wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling and fourth-year pro Geronimo Allison are both in uniform and active for today’s game, a big boost for an offense that is still missing superstar Davante Adams. Both MVS and Allison were injured in the Packers’ win over the Lions on Monday night and were rated as Questionable on Friday’s injury report.
MVS was able to return to Monday’s game with that injury — listed officially as an ankle/knee injury — while Allison’s chest injury kept him out for the remainder of the contest. The Packers did sign veteran receiver Ryan Grant this week as insurance in case either or both of the two injured receivers were unable to play, but Grant is inactive for the game, suggesting that the Packers feel good about both MVS and Allison today.
In less positive news, the Packers will be without a key starter on defense and a substantial contributor in the passing game. Safety Darnell Savage is out again this week, as the team ruled him out on Friday. Joining him on the inactive list is tight end Robert Tonyan, who was listed as doubtful. Tonyan’s absence will require the team to continue to lean more heavily on veterans Jimmy Graham and Marcedes Lewis.
One player who will make his NFL debut today is running back Dexter Williams. The Packers’ sixth-round rookie was passed up on the depth chart by Tra Carson while Jamaal Williams was injured, but Carson’s release opened up a spot for the Notre Dame product.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are missing a few key players as well. Starting receiver Tyrell Williams is out for today’s game, as is starting offensive tackle Trent Brown. The Packers’ pass rush will surely have better matchups with Brown off the field, so look for the Smiths to make a big impact in today’s game.
Here are the inactive players for both teams in today’s game.
