Aaron Jones Injury: Packers RB leaves Chiefs game with shoulder injury

The Chiefs struggle against the run, but the Packers are low on runners.

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Jones has a spectacular almost-touchdown in the Green Bay Packers’ week eight game against the Kansas City Chiefs already, but he is now in danger of missing the remainder with a shoulder injury, per a tweet from the team’s official account.

Jones has improved as a receiver every week, and he made one of the bigger plays for the Packers earlier with a 50-yard gain up the sideline to set up a touchdown. However, if he cannot return they will really miss him on the ground. Kansas City entered the game 29th against the run according to DVOA, and Jones is uniquely capable of punishing opponents who struggle in this area.

On a positive note, Jamaal Williams has been more than up to the task of spelling Jones when called upon to do so, but his value has come primarily as a receiving back, and he is decidedly less efficient on the ground. At some point, it will become important to pound the ball against this Chief’s front. Hopefully Williams is able to hold up, because the cupboard is awfully bare after him.

UPDATE: Jones returned to the game for the Packers’ first series of the third quarter.
