The Green Bay Packers will remain in the NFC’s number two spot for at least another week, maintaining that position thanks to a victory over the Chicago Bears. The team fighting for position behind them in the three-hole, however, must win on Monday Night Football tonight to stay in a tie and ensure that they can be in position to pounce if the Packers do falter.
That team is the New Orleans Saints, who enter week 15 at 10-3 and now sit a half-game back of the Packers. Green Bay still controls the tiebreaker thanks to a superior conference record, but if they lose one of their final two games (both against NFC North opponents) that would give the Saints the leg up instead.
A Saints loss to an AFC opponent tonight therefore helps the Packers, but it does not change the fact that Green Bay must win out to feel confident in maintaining a first-round bye. Tune in tonight to see if the Saints can remain tied on record with two weeks to go.
