Win, and they get a week off. That’s the equation this week for the Green Bay Packers, who head to Michigan to conclude their 2019 regular season. The playoffs are already in the bag, as is the NFC North title for this season, but getting at least the second seed and a first-round bye is what is at stake this Sunday.
In their way are the Detroit Lions, who will close out a particularly disappointing season this weekend. The Lions have been hit particularly hard by injuries in 2019, with numerous key players on both sides of the football landing on injured reserve. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is the biggest name down for the year, replaced under center by third-string rookie David Blough. At least three other Lions starters on offense are on IR, joined by four or five starters on defense.
Another milestone within the Packers’ grasp is the century mark. A win would give the Packers their 100th-ever regular season victory over the Lions, and would make that the Packers’ first head-to-head rivalry with 100 wins on either side. Green Bay has already hit the 100 mark when combining playoff wins, however, as they sit 2-0 against Detroit in the postseason.
