Last year’s Green & Gold Charity Softball Game resulted in some pain for one particular member of the Green Bay Packers. Linebacker Clay Matthews took a line drive in the face, suffering a broken nose in the process.
Hopefully the 2019 edition of the game will be less eventful. This year’s game is set to be held in just under two weeks, on Saturday, June 1st. Tickets are still available for the game, which will take place at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.
The event, which has traditionally seen the Packers’ top wide receiver serve as the primary host, will get a co-host from the defense for the second straight year. Joining Davante Adams this year is linebacker Blake Martinez, who will take over for Matthews. This will be Adams’ second year hosting the event, following previous hosts Jordy Nelson and Donald Driver. In addition, Driver is bringing a separate group of Wisconsin sports alumni for another charity game in July.
Several of the new faces on the Packers’ roster will be in attendance for this year’s game. According to the Appleton Post-Crescent, all three of the free agent additions on the Packers’ defense — Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Adrian Amos — are scheduled to participate.
The game falls squarely in the middle of the Packers’ offseason practices. It comes after two weeks of OTAs, with a third week of OTAs and mandatory minicamp scheduled for the following weeks before the Packers break for the summer.
