It was widely expected to be a done deal in recent weeks, but on Wednesday the details were made official. The Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders will meet in the third week of the 2019 preseason, a matchup that was announced in early April. Now we know that the game will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and that it will begin at 7:00 PM Central time on Thursday, August 22nd.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon, as the game will take place at their stadium, IG Field. According to the press release, the stadium seats about 33,000 fans and has hosted many notable sporting events, but never an NFL game. Tickets will be available starting on Saturday, June 8th.
Early on after the preseason matchups came out, rumors began swirling that this game would be played somewhere in Canada. Indeed, Winnipeg was one of two early candidate cities, along with Regina, Saskatchewan.
The two teams will play again about two months later, suiting up for a regular season game at Lambeau Field. This will be one of two preseason-regular season doubleheaders, as the Packers also play the Chiefs in both the exhibition slate and during the regular season.
The Packers’ preseason schedule now shapes up as follows:
