Cheese Curds, 8/14: Tony Brown & Allen Lazard impress Packers’ coaches (and QBs)

Young Packers are making waves with the coaches and veterans. Meanwhile, Corey Linsley’s alma mater submits a ridiculous legal filing.

Going back to his days at Alabama, Tony Brown has always seemed to make a good impression in any locker room. His passion for football and the energy he brings to work day in and day out rubbed off on Crimson Tide teammates, and even boiled over with a rabid post-game interview following a national semifinal win in the 2017 Sugar Bowl.

Brown even carried over his tradition of going through his pregame warmup shirtless into his rookie season with the Green Bay Packers a year ago, to the amusement of many Packers fans and writers (this one included). Now, his work ethic has caught the eye of the team’s most important and visible player.

While Aaron Rodgers weighed in on the vocal Brown, fellow second-year pro Allen Lazard is going about his business quietly and has taken a nice step towards making the team. Lazard has caught Tim Boyle’s eye frequently in camp, so now the goal is to keep making solid plays on special teams and continue with a splash play here and there on offense.

We’ve got that and much more in today’s curds, including a certain Big Ten university trying to get legal protection for one of the most annoying things in sports.

There’s more than meets the eye with Allen Lazard | Packers.com
What meets the eye has been pretty impressive in training camp, as the Alien Lizard hauled in a great 27-yard touchdown last week against the Texans. He's happy about that play, but it's two mistakes that he made that are on his mind now, as he knows he'll need to clean up any issues if he wants to make the 53.

Workouts and dish duty: Robert Tonyan's offseason with roommate George Kittle - ESPN
Tonyan and Kittle have the same agent and became friends as rookies, and when Kittle needed a roommate over the offseason, Big Bob jumped at the chance. Tonyan is apparently a bit of a neat freak -- "I'm a weirdo," he says -- so he was a model tenant.

Packers CB Tony Brown receives strong praise from Aaron Rodgers | Packers Wire
When it comes to energy and work ethic, nobody on the Packers' roster seems to beat Brown, and Rodgers has taken notice. Brown will probably get some more run with the first-team defense on Thursday with Kevin King still out, so it will be fun to see him go up against starting receivers.

Notes: Oren Burks says no surgery for pectoral injury; Aaron Rodgers mulls helmet choice | Packersnews.com
Burks says his injury is a hyperextended muscle, rather than a tear, so he’ll be out a bit but not nearly as long as the alternative. Meanwhile, Rodgers has a decision to make about which helmet to go with in 2019, and he’s torn between two different manufacturers.

Antonio Brown helmet: Autograph offered for Schutt Air Advantage | SI.com
Speaking of helmets, Brown’s saga continues, as he tries to find a the Schutt AiR XP Advantage helmet from around 2010 or 2011. But he's only offering to trade another practice-worn helmet that he autographs; if you have the helmet he's looking for, I'd certainly suggest holding out for a little bit nicer compensation package.

'The' Ohio State University wants to trademark the word 'THE' | NBCnews.com
Okay, come on now. Just because under state law, the word "The" is in the university's official name, they should have exclusive trademark rights to it? I hope the PTO denies this request with extreme prejudice. Sorry, Corey Linsley and family — this is absurd.
