It all comes down to this week for the players on the roster bubbles around the NFL. The Green Bay Packers have something like 15 roster spots to be finalized on their 53-man roster, and the last opportunity for the candidates to make their case for a spot comes on Thursday evening.
That is when the team will suit up for its final preseason game, a home contest against the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid’s team will host the Packers on Sunday Night Football in week 8 of the regular season, making it the second week in a row that Green Bay will face a regular season opponent in the preseason. Coincidentally, the Packers play the Oakland Raiders and Chiefs back-to-back in the regular season as well.
Following Thursday’s contest, all the focus will remain on roster decisions through Saturday, when all NFL teams must cut down from 90 to 53 by 4:00 PM Eastern time. Interestingly, the Packers are in a position where they will need to practice right away on Sunday after cuts thanks to opening up on Thursday night. That means that they may not be able to have any waiver wire additions or some practice squad players available in time for the start of practice.
For now, however, it’s about to be final audition time as the final preseason game approaches. Here’s how and when to tune in for this week’s contest.
