The moment of truth has arrived. For players hovering around the roster bubble in Green Bay and the other cities around the NFL, the final opportunity to make an on-field case for a spot on a 53-man roster is here.
The Green Bay Packers host the Kansas City Chiefs tonight in a game that will decide myriad position battles at the back end of the roster. The team will surely sit all of its primary starters, with only one or two positions in the starting lineup left to be decided for week one in Chicago. One area that will be interesting is whether the Packers choose to give Lane Taylor and Elgton Jenkins a final competition to earn the starting job at left guard.
The team also needs to settle on a few players at inside linebacker, an area where injuries have hit the team hard. Ty Summers, James Crawford, and Brady Sheldon will likely get plenty of chances to demonstrate that they are worthy of a spot on the 53. Crawford earned his job last year in the preseason finale thanks to some big special teams plays, so a good game tonight can absolutely earn a player a job. Likewise, guys at running back, wide receiver, and defensive back will attempt to do the same this evening.
Join us for the first half of tonight’s game here as we see who puts up the best games and surprises by winning a job.
