Four weeks from tonight, the Green Bay Packers will be in Chicago to open the NFL’s 100th season with a contest against their oldest rival, the Chicago Bears. However, between now and then the Packers have four exhibition games, each on Thursday nights.
The first of those contests is tonight, as the green and gold host the Houston Texans at Lambeau Field to begin both teams’ preseason schedules. Two days of joint practices earlier this week had tempers flaring at times, and led some different members of the organization to express different feelings about the practices’ value.
Regardless, the pads come on tonight and the tackling will be real for the first time in the 2019 season. Practice reps are all well and good, even in full pads, but the real test is how players perform under the lights in these exhibition games.
