The Green Bay Packers did not hold a formal practice on Wednesday, choosing instead to conduct a walkthrough instead. Prior to that workout, head coach Matt LaFleur explained that part of the reason for that decision was a number of injuries affecting the team, and it was not until Wednesday afternoon’s injury report that the quantity of those injuries became clear.
Although the Packers had to estimate injury status due to the nature of practice, it is notable that a starter on offense and a top player on defense would have been held out of practice had the team followed their normal schedule. Those players are tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive lineman Montravius Adams, who are apparently dealing with groin and shoulder injuries respectively. Joining them on the theoretical shelf for Wednesday was wideout Jake Kumerow, who is evidently nursing a shoulder injury of his own.
As the team did last week, they listed a pair of long-tenured veterans — Bryan Bulaga and Tramon Williams as limited for the sake of rest. Luckily, left tackle David Bakhtiari is nowhere to be found on this report, as he appears to be over the back issue that flared up on him before week two’s game.
There are some pieces of good news on this report. First, rookie safety Darnell Savage was listed as limited with a shin injury. Savage was kicked in the shin on the final play of Sunday’s game and wore a walking boot on Sunday and Monday, but he was reportedly out of the boot by Wednesday and walking without a limp.
Joining Savage on limited status is linebacker Oren Burks, in what is a great sign for the second-year player. Burks has been off the field since the Packers’ preseason opener, when he suffered a pectoral injury. The fact that he is being cleared to participate in some drills is not a sure sign that he will be ready to return to the playing field in week three or even next Thursday night for week four, but it is definitely a good sign that he is headed back sooner rather than later. With his replacement, Raven Greene, now on injured reserve, the Packers could use Burks and his athleticism back in the lineup as soon as possible.
Here’s the full injury report for Wednesday.
