The Green Bay Packers play on Thursday Night Football one week from tonight, when they host the Philadelphia Eagles. That should be one of the better TNF matchups this season, at least on paper, whereas the week three game will be of far less interest to fans of the green and gold.
Still, it’s football, and odds are good that many eyes will be tuned in for tonight’s game, an AFC South matchup that pits the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars against each other.
In what will apparently be a common refrain this season, one of the two teams is starting a backup quarterback. That QB is undrafted rookie Gardner Minshew II, a former Mike Leach disciple from Washington State. Minshew steps in under center following Nick Foles’ injury, and he has played well in two games. Filling in early in week one, Minshew completed a whopping 88 percent of his passes, going 22 for 25 for 275 yards — an impressive 11 yards per attempt. Last week in a narrow loss to the Texans, Minshew still played well, going 23-for-33 for 213 yards, a touchdown, and no picks while adding 56 yards on the ground. However, he was sacked four times and fumbled the football three times, losing one.
This week, he’ll go up against the Titans, who appear to have a solid defense that thrives on takeaways. They have forced five turnovers this year compared to no giveaways by Marcus Mariota and the offense.
