The Packers have added another wide receiver to their practice squad, this time signing former Denver Broncos wide receiver Juwann Winfree. The Broncos picked Winfree in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he appeared in just three games in Denver and never recorded a catch, participating primarily on special teams.
Listed at 6-foot-3 (but measuring just 6-foot-1 at Colorado’s pro day) and 215 pounds, Winfree more or less fits Brian Gutekunst’s big-bodied preference for wide receivers. He’s not a burner by any means, either, recording a 40-yard dash of just 4.5 seconds to go with a vertical leap of 33 inches.
Winfree was a bit of an itinerant college football player. He started his career at Maryland, was dismissed for multiple violations of team rules, transferred to junior college, and then landed at Colorado before tearing his ACL and enduring a host of other injuries. He finished his college career with 60 catches for 807 yards and six touchdowns.
