The Green Bay Packers’ medical staff got the bad news that the team and fans feared on Sunday. After suffering a calf injury in practice on Thursday and sitting out Friday’s practice session, starting running back Aaron Jones’ status for today’s game was going to come down to the wire. And on Sunday morning, the decision was made: Jones will not play in today’s game.

Jones missed four games in each of his first two seasons, but was able to get through his entire 2019 breakout season unscathed, making this the first game he has missed since 2018. Jamaal Williams will get the start instead, and with Tyler Ervin also inactive due to injury, that leaves AJ Dillon and Dexter Williams backing him up.

Joining Jones on the inactives list are three other starters. Left tackle David Bakhtiari is done, having been ruled out for the game on Saturday, while the team will be missing half of its starting secondary in Kevin King and Darnell Savage. Defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster is also sitting out, making quarterback Jordan Love the Packers’ only healthy scratch for the game.

This list also means that rookie linebacker Kamal Martin is active today, as are all of the team’s practice squad call-ups. Billy Winn and Ben Braden will play after being promoted from the squad to the 53 on Saturday, while the two gameday elevations — Dexter Williams and safety Henry Black — will be in uniform as well.
